On September 28, 1986, 132 Tangwai activists founded the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) at the Grand Hotel, marking the birth of the first substantial opposition party during the martial law era. While carrying the society''s high expectations for democracy and freedom, this history is also a starting point of irony. Over time and after multiple terms in power, the founding spirit of "integrity and diligence" was corrupted by absolute power, with the party eventually falling into the same trap of corruption, autocracy, and arrogance it once opposed.
