In October 1990, the DPP adopted the "1007 Resolution," declaring that "Taiwan''s de facto sovereignty does not extend to Mainland China or Mongolia." While disguised as "facing reality," this was the first formal party resolution to challenge the territorial integrity defined by the ROC Constitution. It served as a trial balloon for the "Independence Platform" a year later and exposed the party''s intent to view the ROC as a disposable "alien regime," initiating decades of societal polarization over national identity.
