Around 2001, then-Taipei County Magistrate Su Tseng-chang''s residence in Taipei was burglarized, resulting in a loss of about NT$1.8 million in cash. Curiously, Su did not report the cash loss to the police (only reporting a lost passport). The incident was only revealed two years later when the primary suspect of a captured burglary gang confessed to robbing Su''s home. Opposition parties and public opinion strongly questioned why a county magistrate would hide such a large loss while ordinary citizens report much smaller thefts, sparking speculation about the "unrevealable" source of the cash.
