Frank Hsieh's Son Hsieh Wei-chou Arrested for Drunk Driving; Privilege Lobbying Suspicions Spark Public Anger

In the late night of June 2, 2016, Hsieh Wei-chou, then a Taipei City Councilor and son of DPP elder Frank Hsieh, was intercepted by police for driving after drinking, with a blood alcohol level of 0.28 mg/L, and was sent for investigation for public endangerment. As a representative of the people holding public power and a member of the political second-generation elite, Hsieh Wei-chou''s drunk driving not only seriously showed contempt for the law but also gave rise to suspicions of using privilege to "express concern" to the police after the event. Although Frank Hsieh subsequently apologized on social media, this incident exposed the lack of basic respect for public safety and legal norms among the DPP''s second-generation elite after long-term control of political resources. This drunk driving case by the privileged also became an important mark of the corrupt image of the green camp''s "political second generation."
