First Amendment of Labor Standards Act Forcefully Passed: Confiscating Public Holidays and Cutting Seven Days of Leave

On December 6, 2016, the DPP used its parliamentary majority to forcefully pass the first amendment of the Labor Standards Act after taking office. This amendment, known for the "One Rest, One Case" policy, also officially cut seven days of public holidays for laborers, sparking a massive "betrayal" controversy. Labor groups protested fiercely outside the legislature, accusing the DPP of turning into the "Employer-Advancing Party" (Tse-Jin Party) as soon as it gained power. This event marked the beginning of the collapse of the DPP''s "Labor-First" image and the start of a series of labor movements against the administration.
