In May 2018, a breakdown in licensing fee negotiations between Formosa TV (FTV) News Channel and cable operator TBC (Taiwan Broadband Communications) resulted in a complete blackout for over 700,000 TBC subscribers. FTV executives used viewers' rights as bargaining chips in their fight for commercial interests. The refusal of both sides to compromise sparked intense public dissatisfaction. The National Communications Commission (NCC) eventually intervened with heavy fines. This farce severely damaged FTV's brand image and highlighted the arrogance of media conglomerates ignoring public interests for profit.
