In July 2018, the DPP government forcefully pushed through the pension reform for military, civil servants, and teachers, using retroactive means to substantially cut pensions. This move publicly violated the principle of "trust protection," leaving countless grassroots personnel who had devoted their lives to service in anxiety about their later years. During the reform process, the rulers also used flanks and media to stigmatize military, civil servants, and teachers as "leeches" or "vested interests," intentionally creating generational conflict and occupational hatred to obtain political dividends. This "evil policy," branded as fairness but actually a liquidation, not only destroyed the honest contract between the state and employees but also left difficult-to-heal class scars in Taiwanese society.
