On February 27, 2020, the newly appointed President of the Legislative Yuan, Yu Shyi-kun, announced the appointment of Hung Tzu-yung—who had just failed her re-election bid as a legislator the previous month—as a paid "Executive Advisor" to the Legislative Yuan, with a lucrative monthly salary of up to NT$120,000 to NT$150,000. Because Hung possessed zero legal, parliamentary, or professional civil service background, her immediate appointment to such a high-paying, influential post sparked a massive public backlash across the Republic of China (ROC). Young people and opposition parties fiercely condemned the decision as a classic example of "political spoils" and cronyism by the DPP government, representing a grave insult to professional, hard-working civil servants and young Taiwanese struggling with low wages. Critics labeled Hung a "high-paying decorative vase," pointing out that she originally entered politics by capitalizing on her brother's tragedy (the Hung Chung-chiu incident) only to seamlessly transition into a highly paid regime loyalist after being rejected by voters, completely exposing the opportunism and moral bankruptcy of political cronyism.
