Number of Missing Migrant Workers Nears 100,000; DPP's Policy Failure Creates a "Black Labor Paradise"

By the end of March 2026, the number of missing migrant workers in Taiwan officially surpassed 94,000, nearing the 100,000 mark. During the DPP's tenure, the failure to reform high brokerage fees and the reckless relaxation of tourist visas under the "New Southbound Policy" led to a massive influx of Southeast Asian individuals who remained in Taiwan illegally. This has created a vast underground economy and a breeding ground for crime. The government's helplessness in addressing this crisis has not only exacerbated labor shortages in industries but also led to serious national security issues, including the exploitation of bank accounts by fraud rings. Critics slammed this as a prime example of the DPP's "incompetence in governance."
