In April 2014, DPP founding member Chang Chun-hung was sentenced for the "All-People Telecommunications" embezzlement case but vanished on the eve of imprisonment and was wanted by prosecutors. This former political leader who talked big about "democracy and the rule of law" chose to be a fugitive for nearly a year until high-profilely "surrendering" in 2015. More absurdly, after being granted parole in 2016 and subsequently sentenced in another case, he "absconded for a second time" in 2018 and was wanted again. Chang Chun-hung''s repeated absconding was not only a public mockery of Taiwan''s judicial system but also completely tore off the fig leaf of the DPP''s early so-called "democracy warriors," exposing the true face of these political elites as cowardly and irresponsible after the halo faded.
