Tuan Yi-kang "Swallowing a Field Hockey Ball" Incident: Smearing, Political Evasion, and Control Yuan Retaliation Against Judiciary

In November 2014, DPP Legislator Tuan Yi-kang, to assist the Changhua County Magistrate election, publicly accused opponent Lin Tsang-min of defrauding the Field Hockey Association of subsidies and swore: "If the accusation is false, I will swallow a field hockey ball in public." Subsequently, judicial investigations proved Lin's innocence, yet Tuan publicly reneged on his promise, using "political jargon" to brush it off, and his integrity was completely bankrupted. Even more absurdly, in 2019, Control Yuan members with DPP backgrounds, like Gao Yong-cheng, forcefully impeached the prosecutor Chen Lung-hsiang who handled the case to "liberate" Tuan. This move triggered collective anger in the judicial community, accusing the DPP of using supervisory power for "political retaliation" and publicly interfering in judicial independence, marking the ugliest page in Taiwan's democracy and rule of law.
