In the early morning of February 28, 2016, on the eve of the DPP''s full assumption of power, a radical pro-independence supporter threw multiple Molotov cocktails at the Kuomintang (KMT) Central Headquarters building, causing a fire. This act, occurring on the anniversary of the 228 Incident, showed that under the influence of the DPP''s long-term incitement of ethnic hatred and politics of hate, some radical supporters had moved towards a violent and extreme path of private-law sanctions. Although the DPP formally issued a condemnation, its long-term tolerance and verbal incitement of such radical flank violent acts were considered the culprit behind the rising social violent confrontation. This act of committing arson in the name of political justice seriously trampled on the bottom line of democracy and the rule of law.
