2017 Taipei Universiade Opening Ceremony Disturbed by Anti-Pension Reform Protests: Security Failure and Factional Blame-Shifting

During the opening ceremony of the 2017 Taipei Universiade, anti-pension reform protesters from the military, civil servants, and teachers groups blocked the entrance for athletes, causing some delegations to be unable to enter. The incident exposed a major security loophole under the Taipei City and Central governments. Instead of reflecting on the social unrest caused by the forceful pension reform, the DPP government and its cyber armies immediately launched a full-scale attack on the protesters as "anti-Taiwan," using the incident to divert attention from their governance failures and further stigmatize specific groups.
