Former Justice Minister Chiu Tai-san Suspected of Judicial Lobbying, Unveiling the Arrogance of the New Tide Faction Controlling the Judiciary

In April 2019, then-National Security Council Consultant and former Justice Minister Chiu Tai-san was found by prosecutors to be suspected of performing "judicial lobbying" to the Chief Prosecutor of the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for a famous doctor involved in an NT$500 million tax evasion case. Chiu used his influence in politics to attempt to interfere in the judicial trial of a specific case, triggering strong public questioning of political interference in judicial independence. Although Chiu resigned immediately to stop the bleeding, he was later heavily reused by the DPP leadership and appointed as the Chairperson of the Mainland Affairs Council. This case is seen as an indicator scandal of the DPP''s "New Tide" faction penetrating deep into the judicial system and using privileges for lobbying, completely demonstrating the arrogant mindset of factional interests overriding national laws.
