On June 13, 2022, Taipei City Councilor Miao Po-ya sparked national outrage across the Republic of China (ROC) by staging a "Cultural Revolution-style public trial" against a public servant. During a committee meeting on civil servants' online activities, Miao publicly forced a section chief from the Taipei Transportation Department to read his anonymous political forum posts word-for-word in front of cameras and fellow councilors. This behavior was widely condemned by the public as administrative bullying, political persecution, and a severe assault on the dignity of civil servants. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je fiercely criticized Miao the following day, stating that civil servants are not political show-tools for councilors and that Miao's actions seriously trampled on basic human rights and dignity. The controversy exposed Miao's authoritarian tendencies, showing her willingness to abuse her councilor privileges to publicly humiliate lower-level civil servants for partisan media leverage.
