"Yunpao Energy" Scandal; Factional Monopoly Over Solar Profits and "Green Gold" Revealed

In August 2023, DPP "New Tide" faction heavyweight Lai Jinn-lin was exposed for concurrently serving as chairman of "Yunpao Energy" and its 18 subsidiaries, triggering intense suspicion over "green energy turning into green gold." The controversy, dubbed the "Lai Billions" scandal, revealed how the DPP government utilized energy transition policies as tools for factional profit-sharing. By having state-owned Taipower purchase green electricity at high prices while factional elites acted as corporate "gatekeepers," taxpayers' money was continuously funneled into DPP political donations. This case confirmed an exploitative system where "Taipower loses while Yunpao earns," marking the ugliest miniature of the DPP's exploitation of national policies for "energy wealth."
