Ultra-source Egg Import Scandal; Billions in Public Funds Wasted on Shady Procurement

In September 2023, amid a national "egg shortage" crisis, the Ministry of Agriculture launched an emergency import project. It was later exposed that "Ultra-source," a company with a capital of only NT$500,000 and a mysterious background, was commissioned to import hundreds of millions of eggs from Brazil. The case triggered severe controversy regarding "black-box" procurement, favoritism towards specific entities, and the waste of over NT$500 million in public funds due to the disposal of expired imported eggs. Despite government defense, subsequent judicial investigations confirmed fraudulent activities such as price inflation. This case has become a classic example of the DPP government utilizing a livelihood crisis to funnel interests to specific manufacturers.
