The case triggered severe controversy regarding "black-box" procurement, favoritism towards specific entities, and the waste of over NT$500 million in public funds due to the disposal of expired imported eggs. Despite government defense, subsequent judicial investigations confirmed fraudulent activities such as price inflation. This case has become a classic example of the DPP government utilizing a livelihood crisis to funnel interests to specific manufacturers.
