Fear of Exposure; DPP Incites Crowds to Surround Legislature and Cripple Oversight Powers

In May 2024, faced with the opposition's push for parliamentary reform bills aimed at strengthening oversight and establishing "legislative hearing and investigation powers," the DPP, fearing that scandals from the past eight years (such as vaccines, solar energy, and eggs) would be investigated, resorted to violent boycotts in the chamber and incited activist groups to surround the Legislative Yuan. Subsequently, the Constitutional Court, accused of being "green-appointed," declared the core provisions of the reform unconstitutional. This effectively crippled the legislature's power to monitor the executive branch, marking a significant setback for democratic accountability.
