Abuse of Privilege to Cover Up Bullying: Legislator Lai Jui-lung's Son Involved in Severe School Bullying, Spouse Chen Yi-yuan Behaves Arrogantly and Uses Political Power to Force Settlement

On December 5, 2025, DPP Legislative Yuan member Lai Jui-lung, who was actively campaigning for the 2026 Kaohsiung mayoral nomination, was hit by a major family scandal. His eight-year-old son, a second-grader, was accused of chronically bullying and physically assaulting classmates. In one severe incident, the boy chased a female classmate into a school restroom and blockaded her inside for 12 minutes, screaming, "I will beat you to death when you come out," leaving the girl severely traumatized and in need of long-term counseling.

Public anger intensified when the victim's parents revealed that Lai's wife, Chen Yi-yuan, behaved with extreme arrogance and indifference during school mediation, refusing to apologize and attempting to use her husband's legislative influence to silence the victim's family. This elitist oppression forced the victim's parents to go to the media, sparking a massive public backlash. Although Lai Jui-lung held two press conferences on December 5 to apologize and suspend his son, he subsequently used his political influence to release a joint statement with the victim's family on December 27, reframing the severe bullying as a mere "soccer conflict." This political cover-up was heavily condemned as a blatant abuse of privilege.
