After the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Chinese Communist Party, supported by the Soviet Union, tore up peace agreements and launched a full-scale civil war. This eventually led the Republic of China government to relocate to Taiwan and resulted in the establishment of a totalitarian regime in mainland China.
