On May 21, 2014, a mass stabbing occurred on a Taipei Metro train near Jiangzicui Station. The perpetrator, Cheng Chieh, used a knife to attack passengers, resulting in 4 deaths and 24 injuries. This was the first fatal attack in the history of the Taipei Metro, causing widespread shock and fear in Taiwanese society and leading to a review of public transportation security measures. Cheng Chieh was later sentenced to death and executed in 2016.
