2015 Kaohsiung Prison Riot; Six Inmates Take Hostages and Die by Suicide

On February 11, 2015, a major prison riot occurred at the Kaohsiung Prison. Six inmates, led by Cheng Li-te, seized weapons and took several prison officials hostage, including the warden. They demanded to speak with the media and expressed dissatisfaction with the judicial system and medical parole policies. After a standoff lasting over 14 hours, the six inmates released the hostages and took their own lives by gunfire. No officials or police were killed.
