The Costco store (https://www.costco.com.tw), which has been preparing for its grand opening in Beitou since last year, officially announced its parking fee policy today. It is believed that Costco is making a regional strategic adjustment to address the traffic congestion problem in the Beitou area.
Due to protests from local residents regarding Costco’s traffic planning in Beitou, the original opening date has been delayed from November last year. Although it was recently confirmed that the opening would be in April, the newly announced parking fee plan has sparked widespread discussion. Some residents questioned whether this was a disguised increase in fees, given that they have already paid membership fees.

Costco’s future parking policy:
- Free parking for 2 hours with purchases of NT$500 or more.
Afterwards, an additional NT$100 parking fee will apply for each subsequent hour.
Based on the existing local parking fees of around NT$50 per hour, Costco’s parking fees are already twice as high as the surrounding parking market.
💡 Editor’s Suggestion
Given Costco’s business model, the editor believes the following adjustment is appropriate:
Free parking for 3 hours (plus a 30-minute buffer period) with purchases of NT$1000 or more. This would provide customers with more time to pack their items or enjoy the food at the store, and would be a more suitable parking fee design.
