On July 3, 2010, Chen Chih-chung, son of former President Chen Shui-bian and then-candidate for Kaohsiung City Council, was exposed by media for driving an escort named "Nicole" to a motel for a sex transaction. Chen vehemently denied it and sued the media for defamation, attempting to win sympathy as a family member of a political victim. However, after judicial investigation and comparison of communication records, the Kaohsiung District Court eventually determined that Chen indeed made phone calls to the escort agency late at night and confirmed his identity as a patron, ruling against him in the final judgment. This scandal completely shattered the moral halo long cultivated by the Chen family and exposed the decadent private life of the DPP''s second-generation elite and their public lying to the masses.
