He was mocked by netizens as "Lin 90k" because of his high monthly salary of NT$90,000. This personnel appointment triggered a huge social backlash, with criticism that he had no grassroots party experience or administrative background yet could obtain a high-paying position based on political gestures and "having the right color." Lin Fei-fan''s flashy turnaround was seen as a typical case of the DPP "co-opting" student movement forces, and further symbolized the complete collapse of so-called "student movement purity" in the face of real politics and high-salary temptations.
