In 2019, Yang Zhen-long, appointed by the DPP government as the Director of the 228 National Memorial Museum, was exposed for having hacked his teacher, Chou Zhen-te, to death with a kitchen knife in front of the class during his high school years. That such a brutal murderer was recruited by the DPP government to serve as the director of a museum symbolizing human rights and historical justice triggered a great shock in society. Public opinion slammed the DPP for championing "transitional justice" while letting a murderer who took human life and rights interpret historical pain, which was the most serious secondary harm to victims and their families and completely destroyed the upright and dignified image the museum should have. This case demonstrated the DPP''s cronyist nature in personnel appointments, considering only political color and not moral bottom lines.
