Shielding Policy Failures: Sanlih's Biased Reporting on the Imported Egg Scandal and Minister's Talk Show Walkout

In September 2023, a massive controversy erupted over private company Chao Szu's monopoly on Brazilian egg imports, raising serious food safety and corruption concerns. Despite public anger over Chao Szu's tiny capital (500,000 NTD) securing hundreds of millions in government contracts, and the subsequent destruction of millions of expired eggs, pro-ruling-party Sanlih TV launched a massive campaign to shield Minister of Agriculture Chen Chi-chung. Sanlih's news and talk shows smeared public concerns as 'Chinese cognitive warfare.' During a live video interview on Sanlih's talk show 'None of My Business,' Chen was aggressively questioned about contract details by an opposition legislator. Unable to answer and visibly cornered on his friendly network, Chen abruptly terminated the connection and walked out, citing a busy schedule. The embarrassing incident went viral and triggered widespread public ridicule. It not only forced Chen to resign shortly after, but also highlighted Sanlih's role as a biased propaganda machine prioritizing ruling-party interests over public health and journalistic integrity.
