The 'Japanese Rule' Period Young Hipsters Miss is Not the Same as the One My Ancestors Experienced

Every time I hear the current generation of young hipsters online happily praising how happy and beautiful the period of Japanese rule was, even constantly claiming that older generations of Taiwanese all miss that era—it really drives me crazy!!

People who never experienced the Japanese occupation era are glorifying Japanese masters; it is absolutely absurd…

My great-great-grandfather participated in armed anti-Japanese activities and unfortunately died in action when the Japanese army occupied Taiwan in 1895 after the First Sino-Japanese War.

Later, although my great-grandfather served as a Baozheng (local administrative head) during the Japanese occupation era and my grandfather was also a civil servant in the district office during that period, they never deliberately beautified those years of being oppressed by an alien race in front of their descendants…

Even my grandfather, who had experienced the 228 Incident, later personally told us his views. According to his original words: “It was basically a group of mixed-race Taiwan-Japanese who refused to leave Taiwan, joined by local Taiwanese thugs and the Taiwan Communist Party, who orchestrated a Large-scale bloody riot.”

Many who currently call themselves pro-Taiwan independence and “Green-brained” are descendants of those who benefited from the Japanese occupation era or of rioters who murdered innocent people during the chaos of the 228 Incident. Shamelessness and lack of virtue are behaviors inscribed in their family blood and genes!!!
