Taipei Enhances Public Safety Rewards: Report Unmanaged Building Facade Tile Damage for Up to NT$150,000

The Taipei City Government, to accelerate handling of public safety incidents caused by falling facade tiles, specially established the “Taipei Building Facade Damage Reporting Reward Guidelines,” encouraging citizens to actively participate in urban safety maintenance.

💰 Reporting Reward: Up to NT$150,000

  • Applicable Scope: Any report of facade damage for buildings not on the Construction Administration Authority’s list.
  • Reward Mechanism: After the tile damage causing public danger is fined by the Construction Authority, the reporter can receive 1/2 of the fine amount.
  • Maximum Reward: Up to NT$150,000 can be obtained.
  • Process: Citizens need to provide concrete evidence to the Taipei Construction Authority for verification.

🏗️ Construction Authority’s Mandatory and Guidance Measures

The Taipei Construction Authority stated they’ve adopted the following measures:

  1. Proactive Inspection: Established a special task force to comprehensively inspect and inventory all buildings with facade damage throughout the city.
  2. Deadline for Improvement: All buildings confirmed to have public safety hazards will have warning areas marked immediately and “Beware of Falling Objects” signs posted, with building owners given a deadline for improvement.
  3. Penalties: If improvements aren’t made within the deadline, aside from fines of NT$600,000 to NT$3,000,000 under the Building Act, negligence fines will be imposed on management committees.

🛠️ Facade Repair Subsidy

The Taipei City Government also provides citizens the option to apply for “Facade Damage Repair Subsidy”:

  • Subsidy Eligibility: Buildings over 10 years old with facades facing roads or exposed pedestrian areas.
  • Subsidy Items: Divided into two expense categories: “Crane Rental” and “Facade Installation Labor.”
  • Subsidy Amount: Maximum NT$40,000 per case.
  • Repair Deadline: After approval, repairs must be completed within 1 month.
