To Whom It May Concern:
I am a student (office worker, civil servant, professor, regular citizen, teacher). Due to my concern and reflection on the Lin Chih-chien incident, I have decided to write this petition to the Ministry of Education, the highest academic authority in our country, to put forward my demands.
🚨 The Core of the Incident and the Supervisor’s Responsibility
Lin Chih-chien had his degree revoked due to thesis plagiarism, and his supervisor, Chen Ming-tong, has also been accused of facilitating related academic crimes. Such an incident not only damages the reputation of the academic community but also deeply affects students’ trust and expectations for education.
Academic ethics is an important value of universities and the foundation of the education system. However, the occurrence of such an incident is extremely disappointing and disheartening.
In the Lin Chih-chien incident, as his supervisor, Chen Ming-tong bore the responsibility for guidance and supervision, but his guidance was negligent. He failed to promptly discover and correct the plagiarism in Lin Chih-chien’s thesis, and it might even be a collusive structural malpractice of perfunctoriness, ultimately leading to such a major academic corruption incident.
Chen Ming-tong’s dereliction of duty not only had a serious impact on the student Lin Chih-chien but also damaged the credibility of the academic community and the education system. Such behavior also violates the basic duties of a supervisor and is even suspected of encouraging related crimes. Under such circumstances, Chen Ming-tong continues to receive his salary, which is extremely unreasonable.
📢 Appeal to the Ministry of Education: Investigate and Recover Improper Gains
Therefore, we call upon the Ministry of Education:
- To investigate and handle the situation where Chen Ming-tong’s guidance failed to fulfill his responsibilities.
- To have the money he gained during the process of being a supervisor while failing to fulfill his responsibilities returned to the university.
This is not only for fair treatment in the case of Lin Chih-chien but also for upholding educational ethics and protecting students’ rights and interests. It is hoped that the Ministry of Education can take these demands seriously, maintain the fairness and credibility of the education system, and allow students to trust and respect the education system more.
I look forward to your reply. Thank you.
Sincerely, 迫
