The Fire of Targeting KMT Party Assets Will Eventually Burn Back to the DPP—A Dialogue
Commentary on a news story titled “The Fire of Targeting KMT Party Assets”
Comment 1: Mike Wang (Taipei)
“The KMT is stupid to think keeping party assets equals victory. But with all this baggage, how can the KMT recover in elections or gain voter support? Party members get nothing. The KMT elite use ordinary party members. It’s truly tragic. Taiwan’s blue and green parties have been defrauding people for ages, not just today. You’d have to be mentally disabled to believe their lies about 24-hour long-term care ‘til death. Taiwan people are idiots to believe these blue-green swindlers.” (Posted December 21, 2016, 12:02 PM)
Taiwan Next’s Response
Although KMT party assets have indeed become liabilities, the Committee on Handling Ill-gotten Party Assets and the Ill-gotten Party Assets Disposal Act represent lawless tyranny that embarrasses Taiwan globally. The KMT cannot accept this, and neither should you, because it concerns fundamental legal justice. As for your other claims, they’re merely personal speculation requiring no comment from us.
Comment 2: Ray Huang (TAFE Queensland Brisbane)
“KMT party assets should be completely eliminated—that’s the consensus. Only vested interests defending their privilege object now. Legally speaking, holding stolen goods for decades doesn’t change their illegal status. Politically, party funding should come only from small donations and public subsidies banning unfair competition. Much like helping an addict or an organization abusing illegal party assets, they need external intervention to abstain.” (Posted December 21, 2016, 9:08 AM)
Taiwan Next’s Response
On matters of emotion and ethics, there’s little to say. But legally, you’re making serious errors.
First, you must prove your claim about “stolen goods” before proceeding with accusations. Currently, you’re making direct accusations without establishing proof—that’s backwards logic.
Second, any investigation requires equal application across all parties. When Japan occupied Taiwan and extracted wealth during that tragically exploitative colonial era, before their WWII defeat and flight, how many industries were transferred to Taiwanese hands? How many were entrusted to Taiwanese people for management but then usurped? These must be investigated equally.
Justice cannot be selective. The principle must apply universally to all political parties, not merely one’s political opponents.
