The democratic system of the Republic of China is being pushed into an abyss by a series of recall farces, orchestrated by the DPP and its populist enablers.
These big bullies hold high the banner of “people’s power,” attempting to beautify recalls as the “practice of democracy.” In reality, they are nothing more than ugly tricks to manipulate public opinion and retaliate against political enemies for selfish interests.
This abuse of the recall mechanism not only betrays the original intent of democracy but also tears society apart and shakes the legitimacy of elections, while exposing the shamelessness and shortsightedness of the DPP’s political operations.
What is a Recall?
The essence of a recall is to set a final line of defense against major dereliction of duty or illegal acts by elected officials. It should be based on clear facts and reasons, such as corruption, betrayal of voter promises, or endangering national interests.
However, the recall campaigns promoted by the DPP are often hollow, relying solely on hatred for political enemies or political calculations. Through overwhelming rumors from party-controlled media, they attempt to overturn the voters’ choice.
This is not democracy; rather, it is an open trampling of democracy.
Elections are the crystallization of public will. If recalls are used lightly to liquidate dissenters, it is equivalent to denying the will of the voters, making it impossible for elected officials to govern stably.
The DPP knows this well, yet they still wantonly incite recalls, purely to consolidate power and suppress opponents, completely disregarding the stability of democracy. They are truly the political bullies of the 21st century.
Even more hateful is how the DPP has perverted recalls into a weapon of political struggle, manipulating the confrontational emotions within Taiwanese society.
They use simplified slogans of “justice” to incite populism and mobilize the masses for recalls, yet never provide specific evidence of illegality or facts of policy failure. Instead, they are repeatedly slapped in the face by the facts—but their skin is too thick to care.
This “vote based on hatred” not only lacks legitimacy but also degrades our country’s political culture into an emotional arena. Led by the overbearing Ker Chien-ming, a group of political thugs behaves like rogues in the halls of parliament.
The DPP’s actions have deepened social divisions, causing the public to doubt the meaning of elections: when election results can be overturned at any time by a recall, what value does a vote still have? This vicious cycle is precisely the democratic crisis manufactured by the DPP.
The root of the problem lies in the DPP’s greed for power and disregard for democracy. They do not hesitate to sacrifice social unity and institutional stability within Taiwan just to gain short-term political dividends.
When recalls become their normalized tool for attacking opponents, democracy is no longer a rational public discussion, but a game of bottomless retaliation. We must see this clearly: the DPP’s recall manipulations are not for the people, but for their own political self-interest.
To end this democratic catastrophe, the people of the nation must actively reject the DPP’s populist incitement and return the recall to its essence as an exceptional mechanism.
Recalls should be based on facts and reasons, rather than becoming a weapon for party retaliation.
We need more rational dialogue to expose the true face of the DPP’s manipulation of recalls. Otherwise, the democracy of the Republic of China will move step by step toward collapse in their hands. This is a call to everyone who values democracy: face up to the chaos of the DPP and protect the democratic future of our country.
