Chen Shih-chung: “If epidemic prevention fails and Taiwan is destroyed, Taiwanese businesspeople will truly be unable to return home.”
Green-brained supporters: “Super excited, totally agree, sharing like crazy…”
💣 Questioning the Logic of Epidemic Prevention and National Security
In reality, anyone with a modicum of logic and reason would look at Chen Shih-chung’s statement and think:
“So one novel coronavirus breaching our epidemic defenses would destroy Taiwan… then why does the PRC even bother wasting fuel sending fighter jets to circle the waters off the Republic of China 🇹🇼?”
Moreover, Chen’s remarks further raise the question: Is the Republic of China under Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP’s governance truly inferior even to the Chen Shui-bian era in terms of governing capability and medical crisis management during SARS?
🦠 Comparing the Atmosphere During the SARS Era
According to elders who lived through the SARS outbreak, even under Chen Shui-bian’s administration, no senior government official proactively manufactured panic about potential mask shortages. Officials at all levels simply needed to focus on preventing and controlling the epidemic—no politicking, no power grabs, and certainly no one trying to become an internet celebrity for clout. The overall atmosphere surrounding epidemic prevention was relatively pure and straightforward, with everyone united against the virus. Unlike today, where before fighting the virus, one must first attack political enemies—all for the sole purpose of maintaining an advantage in the next election.
Or is Chen Shih-chung, a dentist by training, actually publicly questioning whether the Republic of China’s pulmonologists, infectious disease specialists, emergency physicians, and countless other doctors have become inferior to their predecessors from 20 years ago in their ability to combat viral epidemics—or have even regressed?
💉 Political Manipulation and Clickbait
Personally, I feel that some of Chen Shih-chung’s recent quotes may well have been carefully planned by think tank speechwriters. For the green-brained supporters who can only comprehend headlines, they get as excited as if injected with chicken blood, squawking everywhere…
This behavior is remarkably similar to the government requisitioning only 30% of masks from 80 factories while spending NT$200 million of taxpayer money to buy new equipment and production lines for manufacturers… NT$200 million spent as a news headline—doesn’t everyone feel so wonderful reading that…
🇯🇵 The Question of Double Standards
But that said, Minister Chen Shih-chung, when do you and Tsai Ing-wen’s DPP government plan to restrict nationals from 🇯🇵 Japan—a country also experiencing outbreaks—from entering our country’s Taiwan Island????? When… exactly…??
