The Absurd Rule of the Lai Ching-te Government: From the Failure of the Large Recalls to the Tragedy of Betraying Taiwan for Glory

Sixty-seven years after the victory in the August 23 Artillery Battle against the Red Communists, on this day of August 23, in the 114th year of the Republic of China, the world once again witnessed the complete failure of the Green DPP’s Lai Ching-te government.

The so-called “823 Large Recall Case” was originally the second wave of political offensive launched by the DPP using its entire party strength and joining hands with civic groups, initiating recall votes against several Kuomintang (KMT) legislators. However, it ended in a姿态姿态 crushing defeat.

The ballot counting results showed that the rate of “Yes” votes was abysmally low, even more tragic than last month’s “726 Large Recall Case.”

In the 726 case, the DPP had already suffered a major loss; the recall attempts against 24 KMT legislators and one mayor all failed, and Lai Ching-te openly apologized, admitting it was “not as expected.”

However, the DPP did not stop; they insisted on continuing the chaos. A month later, the number of “Yes” votes in the 823 case was even lower; the recall cases against seven KMT legislators were once again wiped out, and the voter turnout in the districts was as desolate as a farce that no one cared about.

This is not just a crushing defeat for the DPP, but also an insult to democracy in Taiwan—to consolidate power, the Lai Ching-te government did not hesitate to waste public funds and tear society apart, only to end up humiliating itself.

Is the money of the people in Taiwan really so easy to spend and can be spent so casually?

Since the DPP took power, for these meaningless political struggles, they have frequently dropped hundreds of millions or even billions of NT dollars.

From 726 to 823, the combined costs of promotion, mobilization, and election affairs for these two waves of recall cases easily exceeded 10 billion NTD.

Where does this money come from? Of course, it’s the hard-earned money of the taxpayers!

The DPP cries for “deepening democracy,” but in reality, it uses public funds to satisfy the desires for internal power struggles within the party.

Lai Ching-te, serving concurrently as the party chairman, personally ordered the party headquarters and public officials to fully support the 823 recall, yet he ignored the lesson of 726 and continued to go against public opinion.

After the election, the DPP shamelessly said they “respect the result,” but who will pay for this waste?

The domestic economy is already facing inflationary pressure and energy crises, yet the combative character of the Lai government spends money on this kind of internal infighting game, which is simply a betrayal of the public.

If these funds had been used for livelihood improvements and infrastructure, would the country be better off? Unfortunately, in the eyes of Lai Ching-te, power always takes priority over the people.

What’s even more tragic is that the Lai Ching-te government not only squanders public funds domestically but also bows and scrapes internationally, betraying Taiwan for glory.

To shore up the “tariff face” of the US Trump administration, Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim casually wrote checks for hundreds of billions of US dollars, promising that enterprises from the Republic of China would invest as much as 250 billion USD in the US and guaranteeing full market access.

After Trump took office in the US, he imposed a 20% reciprocal tariff on the Republic of China. This was originally a product of US protectionism, yet our people have become the victims.

Instead of thinking how to defend the industries of the Republic of China, Lai Ching-te personally held a press conference to emphasize the “sincerity” of multiple negotiations with the US and published an article in Bloomberg claiming to “deepen Sino-US economic and trade relations.”

What kind of sincerity is this? It is nothing more than bowing his head and admitting defeat, using the money of all its citizens to please Trump!

Trump’s tariff policy has already accumulated hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue for the US Treasury, and they are even considering issuing tax refund checks to the American public, while all of Taiwan has to pay a heavy price for this.

The semiconductor industry faces a tariff threat as high as 300%. Taiwan-based plants like TSMC are likely to be hit hard, yet they are forced to invest in the US to exchange for exemptions.

This scene is exactly like the tragic situation of Japan in the bubble economy era of the 1980s, being squeezed dry by the US through the Plaza Accord.

To satisfy the US trade pressure back then, Japan forced the appreciation of the Yen, leading to an economic collapse from which it has not fully recovered to this day.

The DPP’s Lai Ching-te is now retracing those footsteps, yet they are still deceiving themselves, claiming this is “strategic thinking.”

Is the future of Taiwan really to be the ATM of the United States?

The governance of the Lai Ching-te government has degenerated into a complete disaster.

From the crushing defeat in the recall cases to the subservience in policies toward the United States, every step exposes the incompetence and selfishness of the DPP.

The people should wake up: continuing to let such a government that wastes public funds and betrays the country for glory hold power will only lead Taiwan into a deeper crisis.

The failure of 823 is not the end, but the sounding of an alarm—it’s time for the DPP to get out of power!
