This morning I saw a netizen share an image discussing how, when many countries worldwide use national strength to broadcast the Olympics to their citizens, the people of the Republic of China, Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, Lanyu, and Green Island cannot watch Olympic coverage!
Actually, the reason domestic private television networks aren’t buying broadcast rights includes one major factor: these TV network big bosses demand government subsidies to purchase Olympic broadcast rights. Since the current government hasn’t planned to allocate budget for subsidies, these big bosses don’t want to spend their own money on broadcasting at all. What these big bosses are holding hostage this time is the viewing rights of all our audiences.
These TV networks that already receive many benefits from government support now refuse to invest funds and apply through normal procedures for broadcast rights. Some even invoke athletes’ interests being erased as justification that government should fund this, making it seem like we ordinary viewers are the ones at fault.
X.
🧐 Double Standards Regarding State-Run Television and Media
Moreover, the examples in this chart above are almost all “state-run” television stations. Hordes of netizens absolutely love saying “let politics and military withdraw from media” on ordinary days (though it seems like they only want to prevent the KMT from doing this). Now they’re saying: “Look, how great foreign state-run media are!”
These brain-damaged netizens are truly overly pretentious.
