Chinese publication Boxun News recently reported on remarks made by Vice Dean of the School of International Relations at Renmin University of China and Beijing think tank scholar Professor Jin Canrong in a July 23 lecture in Guangzhou on “US-China Strategic Philosophy” regarding cross-strait relations, presenting extremely sharp perspectives.
🧠 Pro-Independence Advocates’ “Outdated Lens” and Intellectual Superiority
Professor Jin Canrong stated that current pro-independence advocates are foolish, constantly viewing mainland China through old lenses, believing mainlanders view instant noodles as luxury items and don’t close bathroom doors, refusing to acknowledge mainland development and stubbornly insisting the mainland is backward.
He also said that each time he converses with pro-independence advocates, he feels a sense of intellectual superiority.
🏝️ Taiwan: A Closed Island with Garbage Information
Professor Jin Canrong noted he has visited Taiwan multiple times, once even staying over a month, and discovered that modern Taiwan is completely a closed island.
He gave examples of major issues like financial crises—events that determine human destiny—yet Taiwanese remain unaware, forming a uniquely closed information environment.
He further explained that Taiwan’s information is so closed because Taiwan’s news is garbage information. Despite massive information volume, it only covers trivial entertainment gossip. Once Taiwanese are filled with garbage from garbage media and internet misinformation, there’s no space or time to receive valuable information.
He remarked that despite Taiwan ranking first annually in press freedom, spending a month in Taiwan would definitely make you stupid.
⚖️ “One Country, Two Intelligences” – A Tragic Irony
Finally, he mentioned using “One Country, Two Intelligences” to describe the current cross-strait situation, because he believes while mainland and Taiwan are the same country, the two peoples have two different types of intelligence.
Jin Canrong worried that if Taiwanese return to the motherland, they would lower Chinese people’s average intelligence.
