Taiwanese Column: The Seven Wonders of Taiwan

When people”s hearts are left with only the existence of “I,” they forget the primitive and pure beauty of the soul. The Seven Wonders of Taiwan are not caused by gods, demons, or ghosts, but by the Taiwanese people themselves.

🚨 The Seven Wonders of Taiwan (Conflict between Development and Ecology)

  1. Big trees block the view: I will relocate you to non-existent land.
  2. Dolphins swim in the wrong waters: I know that for human construction, you will turn aside and yield your original paradise.
  3. Forests occupy fertile land: I will first cut down and sell valuable large trees, then small trees and grasslands can be easily burned down.
  4. Birds fly to the wrong mangroves: When the Danbei Outer Road is under construction, I know you will move to the Tamsui Golf Course to live.
  5. Black bears wander into the wrong mountains: To allow the Taichung City Government to build a mountain cable car, I know you will first migrate to other high mountains also awaiting development.
  6. Humphead wrasse are born in the wrong ocean: Although you have long been listed as endangered internationally, fortunately, Taiwanese people are usually slow, so we will quickly (publicly) catch more, otherwise, once extinct, there will be nothing left to eat.
  7. The Earth is not thick enough: I know that excessive groundwater extraction will cause land subsidence and soil salinization, but if you stop me before it subsides, I will accuse you of disregarding public rights. If it does subside, I will accuse you of not using national power to stop me.

Once there are excuses to rationalize one”s actions, truth and reality cease to exist. But when you reflect upon it, don”t you find your excuses so foolish?

⚔️ Meaningless Wars

Taiwanese people: North vs. South, politicians vs. people, development vs. ecology, plains people vs. indigenous people, cats vs. dogs.

In fact, all of this is meaningless.

The truth is:

  • Taiwan”s North and South mutually discriminate against each other;
  • Taiwanese politicians and people have different stances (colors), and for self-interest, they can abandon others (if you don”t comply, you”ll even hear the excuse that this is social reality);
  • Taiwan”s construction and ecology prioritize low costs over sustainable balance;
  • There are no indigenous peoples in Taiwan, only different groups who came to Taiwan earlier or later to clear land and hunt;
  • Cats and dogs also cuddle with each other.

It”s just that when people”s hearts become narrow, everything suddenly gains meaning: I.

I am from the North (South), I am the people (politician), I want development (ecology), I am Han (indigenous), I love cats (dogs).

Perhaps, this is the true wonder of Taiwanese people: black and white thinking, blue versus green, advertising slogans over scientific research, excessive racial consciousness, experts and scholars are gods, profitability is everything.

🙏 Pursuing Higher Spiritual Beliefs

As for me, I only know that I am a Taiwanese person living in Taiwan. I hope that current construction can balance environmental ecology. I accept all living beings (including cockroaches and mice 100 meters away from me). I deeply understand that experts and scholars are just mortals who spend a lot of time on a specific detail in a single field. I pursue reasonable reality and balance under natural truth.

This is not self-satisfaction; this is for the pursuit of higher spiritual beliefs.

Dr. Jane Goodall once said that when people lack a purpose in life, they spend their time on food. From another perspective, when people lack a purpose in life, and have leisure and money, they will spend their time on…
