KMT Chairman Chiang Chi-chen responded after observing the attitude of Premier Su Chen-chang of the Republic of China Executive Yuan during questioning from legislator Chiang Wan-an in the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China.
Chairman Chiang believed that Su Chen-chang refused to answer questions directly, evaded the issues, and even counter-questioned legislators who possess interrogation rights, asking them whether they had consumed American clenbuterol beef and pork, and even mockingly taunted current legislators representing the people’s will by asking, “Did you get sick?” This clearly shows that the Premier himself has serious problems.
Chiang Chi-chen questioned whether Su Chen-chang’s statement “Did you get sick?” is essentially mocking the people. This completely reveals the administration’s callousness toward protecting people’s health!
Chiang Chi-chen said that what we see is the arrogance of those in power, the bullying of the majority, abandoning past principles, forgetting what responsible politics means, forgetting what political responsibility means, forgetting democracy’s most fundamental standards, telling lies with eyes wide open during impeachment procedures, deceiving gods in the past and the people now!
Chiang Chi-chen stated: The Democratic Progressive Party keeps saying their position is consistent and hasn’t changed, saying they will follow international standards after they are published. But after international standards were published in 2012, how did the Democratic Progressive Party still maintain zero-detection and still ban clenbuterol pork? This is a contradiction, a double standard!
He believes that President Tsai Ing-wen once said “In maintaining national health, I will not compromise, I will absolutely not sacrifice the interests of pig farmers,” and “In future negotiations, I will communicate with industry, the people, the opposition, and the legislature,” yet the result was a single decree—an executive order published with only seven days’ notice opening the market. Where is the promised communication?
Chiang Chi-chen angrily criticized: When the Democratic Progressive Party’s Premier Su faces policy U-turns and contradictions, unwilling to apologize, facing the public’s concerns, all that remains are excuses and sophistry. The promised communication turned out to be empty!
Chiang Chi-chen stated that as a responsible opposition party, they have a responsibility to inform the public of the fatal problems contained in American pork containing ractopamine clenbuterol:
- 69% of the people oppose the importation of clenbuterol pork.
- 72% of the people are concerned about food safety issues resulting from the opening.
- 58% of the people cannot tolerate meat products containing clenbuterol residue.
- 65% of the people oppose opening up clenbuterol pork in exchange for a Taiwan-US trade agreement. This tells the ruling party that health cannot be exchanged and food safety cannot be compromised.
- 63% of the people don’t believe that opening up ractopamine pork can exchange Taiwan’s international status. This means that opening up ractopamine pork for international status is only the ruling party’s own fantasy.
- 60.3% of the people support using a referendum to block clenbuterol importation. This is the people taking matters into their own hands against the government’s policy.
Chiang Chi-chen said the KMT will launch a nationwide recall! When the nation’s people face such a barbaric government like the DPP, the KMT, having already completed the first phase of referendum signature collection, will also pledge to spread it everywhere through various channels and methods to express their demands, fully demanding that the DPP president report to the legislature, the Premier apologize, and the Minister of Agriculture resign!
Chiang Chi-chen believes that we must further demand that the importation of ractopamine pork undergo thorough discussion, complete public hearings at the Legislative Yuan, and law review procedures, with the matter referred to the legislature. Whether ractopamine pork should be imported should be reviewed by the Legislative Yuan and should be decided by nationwide referendum.
