💔 The Slanderous Letter from the Egg-Hidden Man and the Battle to Protect Housing Prices: The Plight of Ronald McDonald House in Jin’anli
A few days ago, I learned of some truly heartbreaking news, and after numerous celebrities voiced their condemnation yesterday, it has unsurprisingly made headlines across various media outlets today. The keywords are “Jin’anli,” “Ronald McDonald,” and “Halfway House for Severely Ill Cancer Patients.”
This article will not discuss information about severely ill children or cancer pathology, because it is simply unnecessary!! I am only offering my opinion to the anonymous sender of the slanderous letter and those without medical knowledge…
Ronald McDonald House for Severely Ill Cancer Patients is designed to provide convenient lodging for cancer children from remote areas who travel north for medical treatment. Originally located in Neihu, but due to space constraints, the fourth floor of a building at Nos. 173-181, Section 2, Jinshan South Road, Jin’an Village, Taipei City, was leased to the National Property Administration of the Ministry of Finance for the purpose of building a second halfway house for seriously ill children.
I understand the reasons why a minority of residents in Jin’an Village (if they are genuine residents) oppose the project; it’s direct and simple: “housing prices may fall”. But it is precisely because I understand this that their opposition seems even more unforgivable.
To defend the real estate agent’s prediction that “housing prices may fall by 5%”, this minority of residents has launched a smear campaign, spreading rumors, discrediting the project, and even posting anonymous leaflets everywhere—actions that are practically indistinguishable from Hitler’s.
Especially those few people who only dared to secretly print flyers and post them everywhere reminded me of a Golden Bell Award-winning drama, “Dangerous Minds,” where a male teacher, in order to destroy a male student, secretly distributed a large number of false flyers to achieve his selfish goal (for the sake of later narration, I’ll tentatively call them the egg hiders).

The egg-hidden individuals stated in their propaganda:
“Establishing a medical and nursing home here damages the national image and is an eyesore for the area. All residents are prepared to fight to the death against it.”

I believe these egg-hidden individuals are mostly investors in the area, while a few neighborhood chiefs, seemingly lacking health education, have reinforced their actions. The sole purpose of all this action is to protect their interests.
Everyone has the right and the obligation to protect their own interests, but their mentality is extremely selfish and despicable: “achieving their goals through slander.”
The egg-hideers have brought about the worst consequences and set the worst example, which explains why many people in Taipei are called “dragons” (a derogatory term for people from Taipei who are malicious and despicable).
However, the actions of those hiding the eggs do indeed align with their own propaganda: “Damaging the national image and tarnishing the public’s perception.”
I saw in the news that Jin’an Village Chief Gong Zhihui stated, “The opposition is worried about the risk of infectious diseases at the children’s home for seriously ill cancer patients, and it’s also possible that investors are opposed because they’re worried about the impact on housing prices.” She emphasized that she maintains a neutral stance, and many supportive residents have complained to her: “Why did you let the opposition send out smear letters?”
I just want to say one thing to this village chief: if he doesn’t intend to stop the distribution of smear letters (which must have been recorded by surveillance cameras), then stop spouting nonsense about being neutral. What needs to be stopped is the act of arbitrarily posting smear campaigns and spam; that’s true neutrality…

🥊 Rebuttals to the Points of the Smear Campaign
Regarding the petitions expressed by the egg-hideout individuals in the smear campaign, I’d like to respond here:
Will setting up a halfway house affect the quality of life of local residents??
Housing prices are housing prices, why bring up quality of life? Does Ronald McDonald randomly go and steal all the instant noodles you want to buy, or does he sing karaoke in front of the egg-hideout individuals’ homes all day?
The Premier’s official residence is located here, and many important domestic and foreign officials visit.
If the egg-hoarding group simply asked Premier Chen Chong to issue a statement rejecting the establishment of the halfway house, I believe no one would say a word… Otherwise, the egg-hoarding group wouldn’t need to worry about such a trivial national matter.
No large medical institutions or medical equipment nearby?
See Figure 4 below. From the designated location of the halfway house for critically ill children to National Taiwan University Hospital, the driving distance is $2.0 km, and the travel time is approximately $5 minutes. If the egg-hoarding group insists on calling this “no large medical institutions nearby,” then everyone in Taiwan might as well go to the United States for medical treatment.
Additionally… it’s only 800 meters from the halfway house to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, making it an ideal resting place for patients outside of hospital treatment.

Is the location in an educational district with narrow connecting roads?
See Figure 5 below. The planned location of the halfway house is next to Jinshan South Road, a very wide road. The halfway house is simply a place for seriously ill children to rest peacefully; what does it have to do with the narrow connecting roads?
Furthermore, the quiet environment of an educational district is more suitable for rest. Ronald McDonald made a good choice!

Does advocating for halfway houses damage the national image and prevent seriously ill people from receiving proper care?
I think hiding eggs is damaging the national image, but I haven’t prohibited them from living there!! What right do those who hide the eggs have to prevent Ronald McDonald from living there!?
The egg-hideout’s announcement concluded with: “If the government and the organizing unit do not come forward to discuss a solution, we will fight to the death.”
Actually, after reading this statement, I chuckled and thought that the egg-hideout didn’t need to fight; they could just solve it themselves quickly…

As the situation has developed, people in the village who know the truth have started to come forward and reveal information. They provided an unencrypted petition letter:
![Figure 6, Chief of Jin’an Village, Da’an District, Taipei City] [Petition from Gong Zhihui Chief Jinan Village, Taipei.jpg] Figure 6: Petition from Gong Zhihui, Chief of Jinan Village, Da’an District, Taipei City
From the hidden information in the above letter, we can see that the three main petitioners are all women, all living in Lane 185, Section 2, Jinshan South Road. It’s said that there were approximately 50 additional signatories…
After excluding the “high-ranking, reclusive husbands or fathers” and relatives and friends of the three main petitioners, how many of them live in other alleys? Ha…
According to the whistleblower, we now understand why the egg-hideers sent out smear letters. It turns out it’s all about “urban renewal”. It seems the country has undergone a complete transformation in its pursuit of the enormous profits and methods of urban renewal, completely ruining the good intentions behind it…
The neighborhood chief’s failure to stop the posting of these spam letters, apparently due to a warning from a high-ranking bank official, is indeed pitiful. However, I still cannot condone this “incorrect behavior.” How could a neighborhood chief be intimidated?
Is being elected neighborhood chief really more important than correct behavior? It reminds me of a construction site foreman’s words: “Are we going to handle this through social means now?”
