Critiquing Lin Chun-hsien's Remark 'Taiping Island is too far away to defend': When Allies in Sovereign Proclamations Are Scarier Than Adversaries

Given that the Philippines unilaterally submitted the dispute over whether the Republic of China (R.O.C.)‘s Taiping Island qualifies as an “island” to the International Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague for review, President Ma Ying-jeou specifically flew to Taiping Island in the South Pacific to proclaim our sovereignty.

However, the editor of this site overheard a quote that deserves a place in the “Funniest Notebook of the Day,” contributed by DPP Legislator Lin Chun-hsien. Lin publicly stated to the citizens:

“Taiping Island is so far away from us; it is impossible to defend.”

The editor deeply wonders: how should we deal with such a “great” legislator in the R.O.C.?

We may not fear a god-like opponent (we aren’t even afraid of Mainland China), but we should fear having a teammate like Legislator Lin. Never mind the local internet masses who are eager to join in on the bashing of Professor Ma Ying-jeou; I imagine the nations surrounding the South China Sea, including Vietnam and the Philippines, are simply laughing their heads off.
