Tsai Ing-wen made the backroom decision to import Racto-pork for the people of the Republic of China (R.O.C.) to consume, repeatedly telling the public this was a necessary first step for U.S.-Taiwan economic and trade relations.
Just as Tsai Ing-wen claimed, the import of Racto-pork involved no exchange of interests. Yet, in return, the U.S. imposed anti-dumping duties on R.O.C. manufacturers—and not just any duties, but a world-leading 98.44% punitive tariff. “American Daddy” has slapped the DPP government’s face so hard it’s practically unrecognizable.
Even as the Communist Party in Mainland China engages in heated exchanges with the U.S. amidst the smoke of a trade war, at least the people in the Mainland do not have to eat Racto-pork. This is what you call national sovereignty and dignity.
Is the DPP government now treating the people of the R.O.C. as ATMs? From our physical health to our financial assets, are we just letting our American masters withdraw whatever they want?
