While visiting Paraguay in South America, President Tsai Ing-wen stated publicly:
“I was elected by the votes of 23 million people, so I believe calling myself the President of Taiwan is not an overstatement. There is no need for excessive political interpretation or the creation of unnecessary trouble.”
💬 Commentary and Questions
Ms. Tsai, do you truly believe you can ignore proper international diplomatic protocol and then simply tell others not to “interpret it politically” to avoid “trouble”?
Ms. Tsai, your current identity is the President of the Republic of China (R.O.C.). You are no longer the innocent young girl pampered by your father!
Ms. Tsai, the people who elected you as the President of the Republic of China include not only the twenty million people on the island of Taiwan but also millions of citizens from Kinmen, Penghu, Green Island, Orchid Island, and Matsu. Do they not matter in your eyes simply because they represent fewer votes?
This statement by President Tsai might very well be the final straw that breaks the back of the Republic of China’s international standing.
