If Wang Jin-ping Runs for President, the KMT Will Perish!

Tonight I read an excellent article in United Daily News that I particularly wanted to share with everyone. The article is titled “If Wang Jin-ping Runs for President, the KMT Will Perish!” by Gong Ji from United Daily News.

In the article, Gong Ji addresses Wang Jin-ping’s intention to run for president, laying out the triangular relationship between Lee Teng-hui and the KMT.

Former US President Lyndon Johnson, before entering the White House… once said: “When I was a senator, when voting on bills, the order in which I considered things was this: I am a free man, I am an American citizen, I am a senator, I am a Democrat.”

…Johnson’s last consideration was still not forgetting he was a Democrat. Because he agreed with the Democratic party’s positions before joining, wore the Democratic Party’s armor when elected, he had undeniable moral responsibility and obligation to his party.

Yet… Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-ping… obstructed various important bills proposed by the KMT, making his party’s government movement stalled and difficult, causing national governance to decay and people’s livelihood to wither, grievances accumulating against the KMT and Ma Ying-jeou…

…A reporter asked him, if the KMT nominated him for president, how would he respond? Wang Jin-ping replied: “As a KMT member, I have undeniable responsibility to the party’s decisions.”

Wang Jin-ping also yesterday “complained” to reporters: “During more than ten years chairing party coordination in the Legislative Yuan, I faced much slander. Respect, tolerance, and acceptance are important; I needed to gather good opinions from various parties and committee members as conclusion for ruling party negotiations.”

Your humble author dares ask Major Speaker Wang: First, why do small parties with three members have equal voice as the 64-seat KMT and even veto power? Second, can you find another example in democracies worldwide where secret negotiation results become the Legislative Yuan’s final conclusion without committee member discussion and voting?

…Are our countrymen “indifferent” to this extent?

If Wang Jin-ping Runs for President, the KMT Will Perish!

Since last year’s election, when the KMT mysteriously “nominated” Lien Sheng-wen to compete for Taipei Mayor, we can see the domestic political situation is extremely sinister and deceptive.

Given the political world’s sophisticated election calculations, Lien Sheng-wen’s defeat was already predetermined. Yet why did the KMT still nominate him?

Looking at Ma Ying-jeou’s campaign efforts at the time, one can only say he seemed “reluctant.” Like students submitting homework they’re uninterested in, you often see that expression on their faces.

This makes one feel like a hand with RGB values 000000 is manipulating Taiwan’s entire political direction.

How many still remember the story of former President Chen Shui-bian’s rise to presidency, and Ma Ying-jeou’s palace coup?

Perhaps I can say this: Ma Ying-jeou’s current troubles within the country (even though they proved unfounded afterward), receiving such much criticism among populism (even though there was peace after his election), perhaps greatly relates to the chain he once harshly severed.

As a result, some keep saying Ma Ying-jeou’s failure is because he was weak? Is this being “subjected to having a deer called a horse,” a false illusion created by shouting, or truth? Perhaps everyone already has their own answer. (To destroy someone you only need to insult them constantly.)

Without Ma Ying-jeou’s journey, perhaps the KMT would have already fallen apart. This is why Ma Ying-jeou was so determined to cut off Wang Jin-ping.

But when everyone discovered that Wang Jin-ping, even navigating between the KMT and DPP, even with issues with Ke Jian-ming that would have sunk anyone else, even after Ma Ying-jeou’s harsh treatment, still always smiles saying good things about Ma, always seems to distance himself from the eye of storms before quietly returning—

Yet except for Ma Ying-jeou, everyone wants to be Wang Jin-ping’s good friend.

Does this mean Taiwan’s politics isn’t as dark as we imagine, or is Taiwan’s politics darker than we can imagine?

Now, the two students from Lee Teng-hui’s established Ketagalan School, Ko Wen-je and Tsai Ing-wen—the former has easily become Taipei’s mayor, the latter shows momentum like an unstoppable force toward becoming Republic of China president.

The next battle may well be the KMT’s final destined day in Taiwan. The fate once protected by Ma Ying-jeou.

Just when most expected Hung Hsiu-chu’s candidacy could boost the KMT’s score, Wang Jin-ping suddenly emerged like a backed consensus candidate, making people more puzzled about where he’d been idling in recent days.

Even if Wang Jin-ping’s influence in the south could rescue the KMT’s long-rooted problems, compared to southern residents who already worship Rai Shen and Mayor Hua as deities, unless the KMT’s image among the people can be revived, where lies the chance of victory?

Though Hung Hsiu-chu’s education and background cannot compare to Tsai Ing-wen’s, she at least isn’t hollow and is very genuine.

Isn’t that exactly what we once hoped from Ko Wen-je?

Yet why when voting for president do we reverse our expectations: “We don’t want genuine anymore; we want unintelligible speech.”

But for Taiwan, choosing the right stimulus color has become far more important than choosing real truth. Because the so-called truth is often extremely boring.
